That the Parliament commends the EIS, which is the largest teachers’ union in Scotland, on passing a motion at its AGM that officially affiliated itself to the Time for Inclusive Education (TIE) campaign and to support the TIE's five-point policy pledge; understands that 90% of LGBTI people have reported experiencing homophobia, biphobia or transphobia at school, with 95% saying that this has had long-lasting negative effects on them; believes that 80% of teachers have said that they do not feel that they have been adequately trained on how to tackle homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, with 79% saying that LGBTI-inclusive education should be a legislative requirement for schools; considers that adopting a strategy to tackle homophobia, biphobia and transphobia and including LGBTI issues in curricular guidance and teacher training will help in meeting the needs of LGBTI school pupils, and welcomes the support given to the campaign by the EIS.
