  • Motion reference: S5M-04104

That the Parliament is deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Eberhard "Paddy" Bort, Academic Coordinator of the Institute of Governance and Lecturer in Politics at the University of Edinburgh, who has led the University of Edinburgh's parliamentary internship programme since 1999; recognises Paddy's dedication to the Parliament, as well as his unique ability to match interns with parliamentarians; considers that Paddy was the ultimate European, effortlessly combining his love of his native Germany with each new part of Europe he became a part of, working at Tübingen University in British and Irish Studies and teaching German Studies at Trinity College, Dublin, before coming to Edinburgh in 1995; commends the way that Paddy committed himself to all things Scottish, including acting as Book Reviews Editor of Scottish Affairs, lecturing on Scottish society and culture, and devoting himself to the Scottish folk music community; notes that Paddy was a vital and committed member of Edinburgh's folk scene, running the Wee Folk Club and acting as a trustee of the Traditional Music Forum; offers its condolences to all those who knew him and whose lives were touched by him, and mourns the loss of such a larger than life character, mentor, teacher and friend.
