  • Motion reference: S7M-01723

That the Parliament welcomes the announcement that Europa Music, which is one of Scotland’s longest-established independent record shops, is returning to Alloa with the opening of a second store; understands that it was established in Alloa in 1976 and that the new shop, at 41 High Street, will see the business return to its historic roots in the town; notes that the store is aiming to open its doors on 2 November 2026, the day after Europa Music celebrates its 50th anniversary, with an official grand opening planned for 7 November; understands that the Alloa branch will operate both as a retail store and a major stock-sorting hub for the business, with the team currently processing an extensive collection, including more than 12,000 singles and thousands of CDs and DVDs; recognises the enduring popularity of vinyl and the important contribution that independent record shops make to Scotland’s music culture and high streets; considers that the return of such a well-known independent business is a welcome boost for Alloa town centre and demonstrates the important role that independent retailers can play in bringing character, footfall and activity to such areas; recognises the particular affection that many people in Clackmannanshire have for Europa Music and the memories associated with its original Alloa store; congratulates owner, Ewan Duncan, and everyone involved in bringing Europa Music back to the town where it began, and wishes the new Alloa store every success.
