That the Parliament recognises Respect for Shopworkers Week, which will take place from 9 to 15 November 2026; recognises the vital role played by shopworkers in communities across Scotland and believes that no one should face violence, threats and abuse in their place of work; notes with concern the results of USDAW’s shopworker survey, which show that 70% of shopworkers in Scotland have experienced verbal abuse, 45% have been threatened and 8% have been assaulted in the last year; welcomes the work of USDAW and its partners to encourage the reporting of incidents, promote respectful behaviour and strengthen cooperation between retailers, workers, policing and local communities, and calls on the Scottish Government, Police Scotland, retail workers and local partners to continue working with shopworkers and their representatives to ensure that incidents are reported, taken seriously and responded to effectively, and that retail workers across Scotland can carry out their work free from violence, abuse and intimidation.
