Recognising World Mental Health Day

  • Submitted by: Jenny Young, Central Scot and Lothians West, Scottish Labour

  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S7M-01488

That the Parliament notes that World Mental Health Day will be marked on 10 October 2026; welcomes the work of Scotland’s Mental Health Partnership (SMHP), which is a coalition of 19 organisations from across Scotland’s mental health sector; recognises its contribution to creating a strong collective voice on mental health; notes SMHP's view that, as health and social care reform progresses, mental health must not be overlooked; agrees that there is no health without mental health and that mental health should be afforded genuine parity of esteem with physical health; notes calls for parity of esteem to be reflected in policy, planning and funding decisions, for greater investment in prevention and early intervention, for strong representation of mental health expertise and lived experience in decision-making and for equitable access to services across Scotland; believes that any reform should be judged by its impact on patient care and outcomes, and calls on the Scottish Government to ensure that mental health is placed at the heart of health and social care reform and given equal priority in Scotland’s future health system.
