Supporting the Sea Cadet Corps, Army Cadet Force, Royal Air Force Air Cadets and Combined Cadet Force

That the Parliament recognises the significant contribution made by the Sea Cadet Corps, Army Cadet Force, Royal Air Force Air Cadets and Combined Cadet Force to the personal development of young people across Scotland; believes that participation in the cadets can build confidence, resilience, self-discipline, leadership, teamwork and responsibility, while providing opportunities for adventure, friendship, community service and nationally recognised qualifications; commends the Cadet Force Adult Volunteers whose commitment makes these opportunities possible; believes that young people from every background should have the opportunity to learn about and participate in the cadet movement; calls for cadet organisations to be given reasonable access to secondary schools to explain their activities and recruit new members, subject to normal safeguarding arrangements; further calls on schools, local authorities and the Scottish Government to work constructively with cadet organisations to widen participation, particularly in communities where young people currently have limited access to cadet units; believes that cadet organisations should not be excluded from schools because of political or ideological objections, and considers that every young person should have the opportunity to learn about the confidence, skills, friendships and sense of purpose that the cadet movement can provide.
