That the Parliament welcomes the Dog Ownership Guide (DOG), which has been developed by Dogs Trust alongside the RSPCA, which operates in England and Wales; understands that the DOG was developed as an overarching framework to be used across the UK for a cohesive, four-nation approach to define responsible dog ownership and the contributing behaviours; commends that it was developed through consultation with 30 organisations comprised of experts in the animal welfare sector, including local authorities and 36,000 members of the public; notes that it is aimed at providing a cultural shift of what it means to be a responsible dog owner and how dogs are perceived in wider society, and believes that the DOG is a way forward for owners to exhibit more responsible behaviours, improve dog welfare in the UK and prevent dog control incidents before they occur.
