Action on Police Pensions Delays

  • Submitted by: Pauline McNeill, Glasgow, Scottish Labour
  • Date lodged: Monday, 05 October 2026
  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S7M-01446

That the Parliament is concerned about reports in the Herald newspaper that hundreds of retired police officers are still waiting on pension remedies years after they retired; understands that the Scottish Public Pension Agency has missed its latest target to issue Remedial Service Statements following changes to public sector pension arrangements; believes that these statements are necessary for retired officers to understand their pension provision; is aware that all eligible members were to have been advised of the remedy and choices available to them by April 2026 but understands that approximately 400 cases are outstanding; notes reported calls from members of the scheme and the Scottish Police Federation for Scottish Ministers to take urgent action to end what it sees as this misery for police officers who gave many years of their career serving Scotland's communities.
