That the Parliament congratulates the many communities across Scotland, including in East Dunbartonshire, who have organised and held People’s Emergency Briefings to raise awareness of the climate emergency; notes with concern the increasing number of extreme weather events around the world and in Scotland over the summer; notes warnings from climate scientists that, without urgent action, the climate conditions experienced today will be the "least extreme that we experience in our lifetime"; agrees that tackling climate change is a shared responsibility and that we have a duty to the next generation to address it; believes that everyone should have the opportunity to understand the risks posed by climate change and to be part of the conversation about how we respond; recognises the opportunities that the transition to a lower carbon economy can bring, including warmer homes and lower energy bills, and calls on the Prime Minister to host a televised national People’s Emergency Briefing on climate change, bringing together scientists, community representatives and other experts to help inform the public about the challenges ahead and the action that can be taken, including the opportunities to cut emissions, reduce energy bills and build a more resilient future for all.
