Respecting the Falkland Islanders' Right to Self-determination

  • Submitted by: Thomas Kerr, Glasgow, Reform UK
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 23 September 2026
  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S7M-01316

That the Parliament believes in the generational, long-lasting mandate of referendums, and is opposed to those who desire to ignore the outcomes; stands in solidarity with the Falkland Islanders’ expressed desire to remain an Overseas Territory of the UK via the 2013 referendum, where 99.8% of voters voted "yes" to remain, and opposes the Argentine Government’s continuing claim to sovereignty over the Falkland Islands and any attempts to undermine the islanders’ democratic right to determine their own political future.
