Celebrating 150 Years of Swinton Primary School

That the Parliament congratulates Swinton Primary School on celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2026; understands that the rural village school first opened in 1876 and has served generations of children and families in Swinton and the surrounding area; recognises the important role that the school has played at the heart of village life for a century and a half, providing generations of children with their education while fostering strong and enduring links between the school, families and the wider community; believes that schools such as Swinton Primary make an important contribution to the life and vitality of Scotland’s rural communities; recognises the school’s strong links across the wider Berwickshire learning community; welcomes its Eco-Schools Silver status and its commitment to encouraging pupils to engage with environmental issues; further welcomes the positive findings of the Education Scotland inspection, which was published in March 2026 and highlighted the enthusiastic and motivated children, their success in working together and supporting one another and the calm, inclusive and nurturing learning environment created by staff; notes that inspectors also recognised the rich curriculum and high-quality play experiences provided in the school’s nursery; congratulates the pupils, staff, parents, carers and wider Swinton community, who are coming together to mark this significant milestone, with the 150th anniversary celebrations on 8 October 2026; recognises the contribution of everyone, past and present, who has played a part in the life of Swinton Primary School over the last 150 years, and wishes the school community every success for its anniversary celebrations and for the future.
