That the Parliament notes the reported closure of Aberdeen Live by Reach plc and the significant impact that it believes this will have on journalists, their families and the wider community; recognises the contribution made by the Aberdeen Live team in reporting on the people, communities and issues of Aberdeen and the North East; believes that local journalism matters because people deserve reliable news regarding what is happening in their own communities and the opportunity to hold those in power to account; is concerned that the loss of another local newsroom adds to the growing pressure on local and regional journalism across the North East; believes that this matters particularly at a time when misinformation is widespread; considers that, because of this, trusted, locally rooted journalism is more important than ever; recognises the value of journalists having the time, resources and security to build relationships with the communities they serve, and stands in solidarity with the journalists and staff at Aberdeen Live affected by the announcement.
