That the Parliament congratulates Kelso cyclist, Oscar Onley, on his outstanding performance at the 2026 Vuelta a España, including winning the young rider classification and securing the prestigious white jersey; notes that Oscar safely navigated the final stage in Granada to finish sixth overall; celebrates that his achievement marks the first time since 1985 that a Scot has stood on the podium of La Vuelta; recognises what it sees as the remarkable achievements of the 23-year-old Scottish Borders cyclist on the international stage; notes that his latest success follows an exceptional fourth-place finish overall at the 2025 Tour de France, which equalled the best result by a Scottish rider in the history of the race; acknowledges the determination and resilience that Oscar has demonstrated throughout the 2026 season, overcoming illness and crashes to compete against some of the world’s leading cyclists; believes that his achievements are a source of immense pride for Kelso, the Scottish Borders and Scotland as a whole, and that his success will inspire young people across the Borders and beyond to take up cycling and pursue their sporting ambitions; recognises the important role of local cycling and sporting communities in nurturing talented young athletes, and wishes Oscar every success as he continues what it considers to be a hugely promising career at the highest level of international cycling.
