Condemning Ongoing Violations of International Humanitarian Law Against Palestinians

That the Parliament notes the recent announcement by the UK Government of sanctions and trade restrictions targeting illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank; further notes the statement by Ed Miliband that the UK Government believes that there is "ethnic cleansing of Palestinians" occurring in parts of the West Bank, and that this has been perpetrated by settler violence and supported through policies of displacement; considers that this represents a significant acknowledgement by the UK of the gravity of the situation facing Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territories; believes, however, that economic sanctions alone do not go far enough in the face of what many international legal experts, human rights organisations and political leaders have described as genocide and grave breaches of international humanitarian law; considers that meaningful consequences must include accountability, justice and adherence to international law; calls on the UK Government to provide international leadership in pursuing an immediate and permanent end of violations of international law, supporting the work of international courts and mechanisms of accountability, and ensuring the protection of Palestinian civilians; further calls for renewed efforts to secure just and lasting peace based on human rights, dignity, self-determination and equality for all peoples in the region, and urges all governments to match words with action in responding to what it views as the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and the continued displacement and persecution of Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
