That the Parliament expresses its profound sadness at the death of His Majesty King Harald V of Norway; conveys its sincere condolences to Her Majesty Queen Sonja, His Majesty King Haakon VIII, the Norwegian Royal Family and the people of Norway; pays tribute to King Harald’s 35 years of devoted service as Norway’s Head of State and to the dignity, warmth and steadfast sense of duty with which he fulfilled his constitutional responsibilities; recognises his role as a source of unity and reassurance to the Norwegian people, including at moments of national tragedy; recalls with particular affection King Harald and Queen Sonja’s state visit to Edinburgh in 1994 and his association with the Norwegian-Scottish Association; acknowledges the deep and enduring historical, cultural and personal bonds between Scotland and Norway, which King Harald helped to strengthen throughout his reign, and records its gratitude and respect for a life devoted to the service of Norway and its people.
