That the Parliament congratulates the Addiction Recovery Centre in Kirkintilloch on its recent award of funding from The National Lottery Community Fund; understands that the funding will relieve immediate financial pressures and allow the centre to plan its services for the year ahead; notes that the centre has supported people affected by alcohol, drug and gambling addiction, and their families, in East Dunbartonshire and beyond since 2002; recognises that its free-to-access services includes drop-in support, recovery meetings and a telephone helpline; commends the work of its volunteers, all of whom have personal experience of overcoming addiction; notes that the centre received the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service in 2011; acknowledges the contribution of the late Seamus Harkin, who co-ran the centre for more than 20 years and dedicated over four decades to helping people into recovery; notes that Seamus was recognised as East Dunbartonshire's Provost's Community Champion for 2025, an award presented to him in July 2025; further notes that a memorial service was held in his memory in August 2026, attended by his family, friends and many of those whom he had supported; considers that community-focused recovery organisations working alongside statutory care services make an important contribution to reducing the harm caused by addiction; conveys its sympathy to Seamus Harkin's family, friends and colleagues, and wishes everyone at the centre the very best in continuing his work.
