  • Submitted by: Jack Middleton, Aberdeen Central, Scottish National Party
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 30 July 2026
  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S7M-00767

That the Parliament notes with great concern reports regarding proposals by FIFA to sell stakes in its competitions, including the FIFA World Cup; condemns what it sees as the intention to dilute the international spirit of global football tournaments by allowing for their ownership to be bought and sold; supports UEFA in its fight back against these proposals, including reports that some European nations are prepared to boycott the 2030 men’s FIFA World Cup; believes that FIFA must not be allowed to exploit the global popularity of football for private commercial gain; expresses concern regarding reported ongoing criticisms of FIFA's governance under President Gianni Infantino; urges FIFA to withdraw these proposals, and believes that football must be protected from corporate interests.
