That the Parliament recognises the outstanding contribution made by Steve Clarke to Scottish football following his resignation as head coach of the Scotland men's national team; notes that he was appointed in May 2019 at a challenging period for the national side and subsequently oversaw a significant transformation in its fortunes, restoring confidence, belief and competitiveness; acknowledges that, under his leadership, Scotland qualified for three consecutive major international tournaments, UEFA EURO 2020, UEFA EURO 2024 and the 2026 FIFA World Cup, bringing an end to a 23-year absence from major international finals with qualification for UEFA EURO 2020 and securing Scotland's first FIFA World Cup qualification since 1998; notes that these achievements represented one of the most successful periods for the Scotland men's national team in the modern era; commends his role in developing a resilient and united squad, fostering a strong team culture and helping to integrate emerging talent alongside experienced international players; recognises memorable victories and performances during his tenure, including the UEFA EURO 2020 qualifying play-off victory over Serbia, successful UEFA Nations League campaigns, qualification for UEFA EURO 2024, with games to spare, and qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup; acknowledges that he became Scotland's longest-serving national team manager by matches overseen, highlighting both the stability and continuity that he brought to the role; recognises his distinguished career in football, both as a player, earning 41 international caps for Scotland and winning domestic and European honours at club level, and as a manager with clubs including West Bromwich Albion, Reading and Kilmarnock, where he was widely recognised for transforming performances and was named Scottish Football Writers' Association and PFA Scotland Manager of the Year following Kilmarnock's third-place finish in the Scottish Premiership; commends the professionalism, integrity, dignity and dedication that he demonstrated throughout his time as Scotland manager, both on and off the pitch; thanks him for the pride, optimism and memorable occasions that he helped bring to supporters across Scotland; recognises the positive legacy that he leaves for Scottish football and the stronger position in which he leaves the national team, and wishes Steve Clarke and his family every success, good health and happiness for the future.
