That the Parliament recognises the film, The People’s Emergency Briefing; believes that it highlights the risks posed by the current climate emergency by bringing together leading experts to present the latest evidence on the climate and nature crisis; notes that this includes how the country faces intensifying weather extremes, including up to one in four UK homes being at risk of flooding by 2050 and the increased risk of wildfires and heatwaves; recognises that the current trajectory of a 3-4°C warming threatens systemic societal disruption and significant loss of native biodiversity and nature; considers that the film is important in the current context of reported increasing misinformation around the climate emergency; notes that there have been multiple screenings of it across the country, including in Aberdour, Aberfeldy, Stirling, Kirkcaldy and Cupar in Mid-Scotland and Fife; supports calls for the film to be televised nationally to showcase the nature and scale of the climate emergency, including how it demonstrates the reason why these threats matter to people’s lives, and supports calls for both the Scottish and UK government to take decisive action to deliver critical legislation, investment and public engagement to fully tackle the crisis.
