Congratulations to Derek Reid BEM on Recognition in The King’s Birthday Honours

That the Parliament congratulates Derek Reid BEM of Castlemilk, Glasgow, on being recognised in The King’s Birthday Honours List for his services to mental health and community wellbeing; acknowledges that Derek founded LD Let’s Talk, which is a suicide awareness campaign that provides round-the-clock support to people experiencing crisis and has helped save lives across Glasgow and beyond; commends his commitment to promoting early intervention and positive conversations around mental health through the provision of talking benches in schools across the city; recognises his dedication to young people through running a football academy that supports more than 100 children; notes that he carries out this extensive community work alongside full-time employment and family commitments; acknowledges the profound impact that his compassion, leadership and tireless service have had in one of Glasgow’s most deprived communities; welcomes the national recognition of his achievements through the award of the BEM, and thanks Derek for his continued efforts to ensure that no one faces their darkest moments alone.
