That the Parliament notes with deep sadness the death of Scott Hastings, former Scotland and British & Irish Lions centre; recognises his outstanding contribution to Scottish rugby, including winning 65 caps for Scotland and his role in the Grand Slam-winning Five Nations campaign of 1990; acknowledges that he was widely admired not only for his sporting excellence, but also for his infectious enthusiasm, humour and determination, which endeared him to team mates, supporters and colleagues across the game; commends his tireless commitment to charitable causes and fundraising, including his leadership and advocacy in support of research and awareness, and the generous example he set in using his profile to help others; recognises the practical support that he and his late wife, Jenny, provided to their local community during the COVID-19 pandemic by encouraging neighbours to take part in outdoor exercise to bolster physical and mental wellbeing during a profoundly difficult period; offers heartfelt condolences to his children, Corey and Kerry-Anne, to his wider family, friends and all those in the rugby community who mourn his passing, and celebrates Scott Hastings’ legacy as a formidable competitor, a devoted servant of Scottish sport and a compassionate champion for others.
