Danestone Primary School Celebrates 40 Years

  • Submitted by: Jackie Dunbar, Aberdeen Donside, Scottish National Party
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 20 May 2026
  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S7M-00094

That the Parliament celebrates the 40th anniversary of Danestone Primary School; understands that the Aberdeen Donside-based school opened in 1986 to serve the rapidly growing community of Danestone; notes that, at the time of its opening, the school was quickly found to be too small to meet demand and was subsequently expanded to accommodate a growing roll; further notes that past and present pupils attended a special assembly to mark the milestone, with current pupils dressing in 1980s-style clothing to reflect the decade in which the school opened; recognises that the celebrations also marked a second achievement, with the unveiling of a banner awarded by UNICEF UK in recognition of the school attaining Gold Rights Respecting School status; understands that anniversary events will continue, including a sponsored school run, a whole-school photograph, a picnic and a memory museum display open to the community, former pupils and parents from 25 to 29 May; congratulates all staff and pupils of Danestone Primary School on their efforts in organising these events, and wishes them every success for the future.
