That the Parliament commends Grampian Disability Sport for organising the Mary Duncan Swimming Gala, held at Fraserburgh Swimming Pool on 28 February 2026; recognises the Gala as one of the organisation’s flagship inclusive competitions, providing meaningful and structured competitive opportunities for swimmers with physical, sensory and learning disabilities from across Aberdeenshire and the wider North East; acknowledges that, particularly in rural and coastal communities such as Banffshire and Buchan Coast, accessible competitive pathways can be limited, making events of this kind vital in building confidence and independence, and providing progression opportunities for participants; celebrates the supportive and inclusive environment created for swimmers and their families, fostering social connection and peer support; notes the attendance of Andrew Lindsay, a four-time Paralympian and double Paralympic gold medallist, whose presence highlights the pathway from grassroots participation to international success; recognises the essential role played by volunteers, local partners, schools, clubs and governing bodies in delivering inclusive sport, and commends all involved for demonstrating how community-led disability sport contributes to improving health, reducing inequality, tackling isolation and strengthening communities across Scotland.
