That the Parliament congratulates Glenboig United Football Club as it approaches its 40th anniversary in July 2026; recognises that the club was founded on 17 July 1986 by Anthony Bennett, James Murphy and the late Bill Morrison in response to a decline in school football provision during the teachers’ strike that year; commends their vision in establishing a community-focused club open to people of all abilities and backgrounds; acknowledges the longstanding dedication of Frank Bennett, who joined the club six months after its formation and has since served in multiple roles, including as president; recognises the leadership of chairman Kevin Hamilton and vice-chairman Dave Currie, who took on their roles in January 2025 and are building on the club’s strong foundations; applauds the continued efforts of all the volunteers, coaches and supporters who have sustained the club over four decades, and notes the vital role that community football clubs such as Glenboig United play in promoting inclusion, health and wellbeing and providing a safe, affordable and welcoming environment for people to participate in Scotland’s national sport.
