Enhancing GP Access for Borders Residents

  • Submitted by: Christine Grahame, Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale, Scottish National Party
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 24 February 2026
  • Motion type: Members' Business Motion
  • Motion reference: S6M-20895
  • Current status: Fallen

That the Parliament welcomes the planned opening of a pilot GP-led walk-in clinic in Hawick, for NHS Borders, scheduled for April 2026, as part of a wider programme to expand access to primary care across Scotland; understands that the clinic will allow patients to receive GP-led care without the need for an appointment, helping to ease pressure on local GP practices and improve timely access to healthcare; recognises the importance of providing accessible community-based services in the Scottish Borders; believes that the introduction of the Hawick walk-in clinic will benefit residents by offering additional options for assessment and treatment by multidisciplinary healthcare teams closer to home, and looks forward to further walk-in clinics across the wider Borders area.
