Electrical Fire Safety Week 2026

That the Parliament welcomes Electrical Fire Safety Week 2026, which ran from 2 to 8 February; recognises the week's importance in raising awareness of electrical fire risks in homes across Scotland and the UK; notes that the campaign is led by Electrical Safety First, in partnership with the Home Office, Fire Kills and Fire and Rescue Services; understands that over half of all accidental house fires are caused by electricity, with nine out of 10 electrical fires linked to electrical products; acknowledges the 2026 campaign message, “The beep you’ve been ignoring could save your life”, which highlights the importance of regularly testing smoke alarms; commends the efforts to promote simple, preventative safety measures, and supports continued action to reduce avoidable fires and save lives.
