  • Motion reference: S6M-20563

That the Parliament congratulates Scotland’s achievement, once again, in qualifying for the FIFA 2026 World Cup; notes with concern however, the reported internal violence in the USA highlighted by the claims of recent killings in Minnesota by federal employees; expresses anxiety over the safety and wellbeing of Scotland fans while visiting the USA to attend Scotland’s fixtures; seeks reassurance that the Scottish Government has held discussions with the SFA regarding, not only fan safety, but also the implementation of transparent processes for visa applications, collaborative agreements for fan integration and behaviour management with local law enforcement agencies to ensure that there is a safe environment for Scotland's supporters; asks for a written commitment from the USA that racial profiling will not be deployed by its authorities against Scotland fans and to clarify what resources have been compiled for fans to ensure that they are aware of what behaviour local law enforcement expects of them, and seeks clarification of any discussions between the Scottish Government and SFA about the potential boycott of the World Cup, given the reported recent behaviour by federal officers as well as the USA Government and the potential risk to the reputation of Scotland in being seen to endorse such behaviour by the nation's participation.
