That the Parliament welcomes the Scotland-wide tour of the Lothians Speak Their Name memorial quilt, which is a community project established to commemorate people who have died by suicide in Edinburgh and the Lothians; notes that the tour includes a visit to Aberdeen and provides communities across Scotland with the opportunity to engage with the quilt and the personal stories that it holds; recognises that the quilt is made up of 49 individual squares, each created in memory of a loved one and reflecting their life, love and identity; acknowledges that the project has not only created a powerful and moving memorial, but has also brought people together, helping to build community, support and friendship among those affected by suicide bereavement; notes that, in 2023, 792 people died by suicide in Scotland, 590 of whom were men, and recognises the importance of initiatives that help to humanise these figures and encourage open and compassionate conversations about mental health and suicide; commends the project’s aim of inspiring other regions to develop similar community-led memorials and conversations through the Speak Their Name movement; acknowledges evidence that the quilt has already encouraged people to seek help and support and has helped to save lives, and wishes the organisers, contributors and communities involved every success as the tour continues and the Speak Their Name movement aims to grow across Scotland.
