Kate Kaye Awarded British Empire Medal in Honours List

That the Parliament congratulates Kathleen “Kate” Kaye of Dalbeattie on being awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) in The King’s New Year Honours 2026 for services to early years childcare; notes that Kate has dedicated more than five decades to early years education, including 51 years at Kelton Nursery in Castle Douglas, and that she continues to work part-time at Glenlochar Nursery in Crossmichael; recognises her longstanding contribution to celebrating the life and works of Robert Burns, including as a renowned Burnsian with Dumfries Ladies No.1 Burns Club and through delivering the Immortal Memory at community Burns Suppers; understands that Kate has judged local schools’ Burns poetry competitions, encouraging young people to enjoy Scots language and culture; acknowledges that Kate also represented the local area at the state funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II, and commends her outstanding public service to Dumfries and Galloway, offering warmest congratulations on this well-deserved honour.
