  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S6M-20357

That the Parliament congratulates Jan Crooks on being awarded the Queen’s Nurse title; notes that she is presently a registered children’s and adult nurse, nurse tutor, health visitor and family nurse for 40 years at NHS Dumfries and Galloway, having trained at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead; recognises the privilege of working in a five-strong local team that assists young parents and their babies; acknowledges the benefits of the Family Nurse Partnership, a person-centred programme supporting young first-time parents aged 19 or under that involves assisting in the comfort of families’ own homes, focusing on the crucial first 1,001 days of life from early pregnancy until the child reaches the age of two; welcomes that the programme is carefully tailored to meet the unique needs of young parents via experienced family nurses, qualified nurses and midwives, who undergo extensive additional training at Master’s level, enabling them to support young parents by building the confidence and skills that they need to support their baby and give them the best start in life; commends Jan, who is based in Castle Douglas but has clients in Stewartry and Wigtownshire, on her decision to undertake a new project exploring what would help and prepare young dads, who often feel no one supports them or teaches them how to cope in their new role, and wishes Jan and her colleagues continued success in their work.
