That the Parliament recognises and congratulates the Society of Chief Officers of Trading Standards in Scotland (SCOTSS) on its 50th anniversary and its anniversary lunch in December 2025; acknowledges the vital role that SCOTSS and its members have played in supporting, coordinating and representing 31 local authority trading standards services across Scotland in protecting consumers and legitimate businesses, ensuring fair trading practices and promoting professional excellence in consumer protection services; notes the long-standing partnerships SCOTSS has maintained with organisations such as the Competition and Markets Authority, Advice Direct Scotland, Trading Standards Scotland and Consumer Scotland in advancing consumer rights and business compliance; celebrates the contribution of SCOTSS in helping to safeguard the health, safety and wellbeing of individuals and communities throughout Scotland, in particular its contribution to making Scotland smoke-free by 2034 through its work on promoting and coordinating the enforcement of age restrictions on tobacco and vaping products, and increasing action against the sale of illegal tobacco and vapes in partnership with HM Revenue and Customs; commends the professionalism of trading standards officers and their leadership over many decades, and looks forward to continued collaboration with SCOTSS in meeting future consumer protection challenges, especially as it works with MSPs across all parties in the run up to the May 2026 elections.
