That the Parliament congratulates Martin Christie, of Kirkcaldy, on being named Volunteer of the Year at the sportscotland Scottish Sport Awards 2025; recognises Martin’s outstanding commitment to volunteering over more than 20 years, including his leadership roles within local golf clubs and his contribution to developing a new six-hole course in partnership with the Fife Golf Trust; commends his establishment of the charity Dunnikier Park Community Golf in 2020, including drafting its constitution, forming a board of trustees and setting clear objectives focused on inclusion, wellbeing and community participation; applauds his pioneering work in introducing Park Golf to Scotland, establishing the UK’s first Park Golf course at Dunnikier Park and using this accessible, safe and inclusive format to engage people of all ages and abilities, who might not otherwise participate in sport; acknowledges the charity’s extensive collaboration with schools, care homes, health and social care professionals, third-sector organisations and local partners; notes the positive impact on physical and mental health and wellbeing, with over 1,000 games played in the past year alone, and thanks Martin for his exceptional voluntary service and for demonstrating the power of sport to strengthen communities and change lives for the better.
