That the Parliament welcomes the news that the University of Aberdeen has secured a £1,000,000 public grant for a geothermal feasibility pilot study; notes that the project, called the Aberdeen Geothermal Feasibility Pilot (AGFP), will explore how Aberdeen’s geothermal potential might be harnessed to create low-carbon heating solutions; understands that the project will see an instrumented borehole drilled to a depth of 500 metres at the University’s King’s College campus in Old Aberdeen, providing direct subsurface temperature, geology and hydrology data; believes that this pilot could pave the way for using ground sourced heat to tackle fuel poverty and assist with the transition to clean energy through district heating networks, and wishes all those involved, including the project co-lead, Dr David Cornwell, all the very best of success with their important work.
