  • Submitted by: Maggie Chapman, North East Scotland, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 19 November 2025
  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S6M-19737

That the Parliament believes that people seeking asylum deserve warm, safe and appropriate accommodation, especially when children are involved; further believes that in Dundee, so-called protests against asylum seekers are reportedly now moving to target children and others, with these protests called with a few hours' notice; notes with deep regret reports that these protests have been experienced by residents, be it asylum seekers and others, as stressful and distressing; believes that it is unacceptable that racist groups are reportedly using these protests to spread what it sees as hatred and misinformation about people seeking asylum, including children, who are fleeing war and persecution; reaffirms its support for asylums seekers and refugees, including children, to live in safety, peace and comfort in Scotland’s communities, and the moral and legal obligations to provide sanctuary and refuge, and notes calls on the Scottish Government and Police Scotland to outline what they are doing to ensure child protection, the safety of residents and of those protesting for their right to safe accommodation in Scotland’s communities, and to ensure order in and around children’s accommodation and other facilities where they are living.
