Congratulating Dr Clare McNaught on her Election as President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh

That the Parliament acknowledges and celebrates the historic succession of Dr Clare McNaught as the first woman to be elected as President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd); understands that Dr McNaught is a consultant surgeon and has spent her career working in general and colorectal surgery; recognises that Dr McNaught has contributed significantly to the training and development of surgeons as the founder of the Younger Fellows’ Committee to support surgeons in their transition from registrar to consultant practices, as well as serving as an educational supervisor and research mentor; understands that Dr McNaught was first elected onto the RCSEd Council in 2014 and has held the roles of honorary secretary and more recently vice-president since 2022; recognises that Dr McNaught has made history as the first woman to be elected president of the College in its 520-year history; commends what it sees as her dedication, vision and commitment to being a strong voice for the college’s members, upholding standards and improving patient safety, and wishes her every success in her new role as President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
