Weekly Vigil at Holyrood Calling for Hostages to be Released

  • Submitted by: Jackson Carlaw, Eastwood, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 15 October 2025
  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S6M-19335

That the Parliament expresses its admiration for the group of people who have consistently attended a vigil outside the Scottish Parliament to call for a release of the hostages in Gaza; acknowledges that, since 7 October 2023, the group has gathered at Holyrood on Thursdays to highlight the central importance of securing the release of the hostages and bringing them home; commends everyone who was present at the weekly vigils for their peaceful and respectful conduct and undiminished persistence throughout the last two years to stress how vital it was for the hostages to be returned home; welcomes that the remaining 20 living hostages in Gaza were released from captivity on 13 October 2025 and that they have finally been reunited with their families; understands that the remains of seven deceased hostages have also been returned home, and calls for the bodies of the other 21 individuals, who died in captivity but are still in Gaza, to be released without delay, and congratulates the President of the United States, Donald Trump, on what it believes is the pivotal role that he played in securing the release of the hostages and delivering an end to the war in Gaza, as part of his 20-point peace plan.
