That the Parliament congratulates crews from the Burra Rowing Club and Lerwick Boating Club in Shetland on winning trophies at the Great River Race, held on the River Thames on 20 September 2025; understands that the Great River Race is a boat race covering 21.6 miles from Millwall to Richmond, travelling under London’s famous bridges; further understands that the annual competition sees around 300 crews taking part from many different countries and that a large variety of fixed-seat boats take part, and, according to the rules, with each crew having a passenger and cox, along with a 3’ x 2’ flag, and under a handicapping system that is used to ensure fair play; congratulates the crew from Burra Rowing Club for winning the Alan Spong Trophy for the first mixed crew on handicap in their Shetland yoal six-oared boat, Haad At; congratulates the crew from Lerwick Boating Club for winning the John Gavin Trophy for the mixed veterans over 40 category in their Shetland yoal six-oared boat, Siri; considers that these trophies reflect the popularity in Shetland of rowing as a sport, and the hard work and preparation that has gone into taking part in the competition by participants from both clubs, and wishes all involved well in their future rowing endeavours.
