Condemning the Invitation to President Herzog for an Official Visit to the UK

  • Submitted by: James Dornan, Glasgow Cathcart, Scottish National Party
  • Date lodged: Monday, 15 September 2025
  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S6M-18797
  • Current status: Fallen

That the Parliament condemns the reported decision by the UK Government to invite the President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, on an official visit; notes with grave concern reports that Israel has been recognised by international experts and legal bodies as committing acts amounting to genocide against the people of Gaza; is shocked and appalled by what it considers to be the UK Government’s continued refusal to acknowledge this reality, which, it believes, risks aligning the UK with states that disregard international law, and urges the Scottish Government to make urgent representations to the UK Government to rescind the invitation and to comply with international legal obligations, including recognition of what it sees as the deliberate starvation of civilians in Gaza as an act of genocide.
