Oath of Allegiance - Amendment 1

  • Submitted by: Tim Eagle, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 29 August 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-18547.1

As an amendment to motion S6M-18547 in the name of Kevin Stewart (Oath of Allegiance ), leave out from “commends" to end and insert “values what it sees as the important role of the monarchy in Scottish life; believes that newly elected Members of the Scottish Parliament are rightly required to take the oath of allegiance, in accordance with Section 84 of the Scotland Act 1998, and that any proposals to amend this would be a reserved matter; supports what it considers is the significant civic and charitable work of the monarchy in Scotland, including the opportunities presented to young people by the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme, the work of The King’s Foundation at Dumfries House, and the work of the North Highland Initiative, which was founded by His Majesty King Charles III and delivers programmes and grant funding to support communities across the Highlands and Islands, and believes that, in an increasingly uncertain world, the monarchy ensures stability and continuity across the British Isles and beyond."
