That the Parliament congratulates His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, on the occasion of his 90th birthday on 6 July 2025; joins with the Tibetan Buddhist community in Scotland and around the world in celebrating the event; notes that the first Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Europe, Samye Ling, was founded in Scotland in 1967, including a centre of learning dedicated to the furtherance of peace and wisdom inaugurated by His Holiness on his first visit to Scotland in May 1993; welcomes the Dalai Lama’s lifelong campaign for democracy and freedom for the Tibetan people; believes that this was exemplified by his establishment of a democratic Tibetan Government and Parliament in Exile, and affirms the belief that the question of the Dalai Lama's succession is one for the Tibetan people and the global Tibetan Buddhist community alone, without any outside interference.
