World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025: Together for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld

  • Submitted by: Monica Lennon, Central Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 30 May 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-17720

That the Parliament acknowledges World Menstrual Hygiene Day, marked annually on 28 May, as a Global Day of Action to raise awareness of the importance of menstrual health and hygiene; welcomes the 2025 theme, “Together for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld”, which calls for collective efforts to break the silence around menstruation, tackle stigma and ensure that periods do not limit access to education, health or opportunity; believes that, despite progress, period poverty continues to affect millions worldwide; reaffirms what it sees as Scotland’s global leadership in addressing period inequality through the Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Act 2021, which enshrines the right to access free period products in law, and calls on governments, institutions and communities to continue working together to promote menstrual equity, improve education and build a society where everyone who menstruates is supported, respected and able to thrive.
