That the Parliament acknowledges what it sees as the essential role of unpaid carers in Scotland, who provide crucial care and support to family members and loved ones, saving, it understands, the Scottish economy an estimated £15.9 billion annually; recognises the financial hardship faced by many unpaid carers due to what it considers inadequate social security payments, lack of employment opportunities, and rising living costs; notes the findings of the Carers Scotland and IPPR Scotland report on the feasibility of a Minimum Income Guarantee (MIG) for unpaid carers, which highlights the need for urgent financial support and pilot schemes to test the effectiveness of a MIG; welcomes the recommendation that unpaid carers providing 20 hours or more of care per week should receive financial support that ensures their income does not fall below an acceptable standard; calls on the Scottish Government to implement a pilot programme to deliver a MIG for unpaid carers, integrating this support with existing Adult Carer Support Plans and benefits maximisation initiatives, and urges the UK Government to work in collaboration with the Scottish Government to prevent any loss of financial support due to benefit interactions.
