  • Date lodged: Monday, 02 June 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-17412

That the Parliament acknowledges with great sadness reports of the resignation of Bernhard Wolf from the vascular surgery department at Raigmore Hospital; understands that Mr Wolf has worked at Raigmore for 23 years, and that, on the announcement of his resignation, he received hundreds of public messages containing good wishes, support, and sadness at his departure; believes that this is testament to the care that he shows his patients and his dedication to his profession; understands from reports that Mr Wolf resigned due to safety concerns regarding the provision of vascular services at Raigmore Hospital; commends Mr Wolf both for taking this difficult decision and for speaking out about what it believes is the inadequacy of service; understands from reports that he believes "in a better future for our patients"; hopes that his actions will trigger immediate changes to ensure patient safety; notes reported concerns that that there is now no vascular service provision at Raigmore Hospital, as Mr Wolf was the last vascular surgeon employed there; understands that this means that patients are having to travel south for up to eight hours, sometimes at night and in taxis or ambulances, to access the help they need; believes that local provision of healthcare in rural and remote areas across Scotland is important, and that there is a particular lack of adequate specialist service provision within NHS Highland; respects what it sees as Mr Wolf’s brave decision; thanks him for his service, and wishes him all the very best for the future.
