Protecting Scotland’s Fishing Industry - Amendment 2

  • Submitted by: Ariane Burgess, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 29 April 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-17360.2
  • Current status: Taken in the Chamber on Wednesday, 30 April 2025

As an amendment to motion S6M-17360 in the name of Tim Eagle (Protecting Scotland’s Fishing Industry), leave out from "it took” to end and insert "the UK Fisheries Act 2020 provides a federalised legislative framework for the UK Government and Scottish Government to address fisheries objectives, notably sustainability, bycatch and discard, equal access and climate change; calls on the EU, the UK Government and the Scottish Government to urgently act upon long-standing concerns at sea, such as bycatch and discard, illegal fishing and quota reform that incentivises low-impact fishing, and a genuine equitable allocation that prioritises Scotland's coastal communities; further calls on the UK Government to include the Scottish Government in fisheries negotiations, given that Scotland holds 60% of the UK's seas and 13% of Europe's marine area; highlights the importance of accurate and up-to-date science, since these negotiations are based on fish stocks and one of the objectives of the quota is to reduce and avoid overfishing, and believes that there should be an annual debate on fisheries to highlight its importance in contributing to and enhancing Scotland’s environment, coastal communities and economy."
