Commending Leuchie House

  • Submitted by: Craig Hoy, South Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 29 April 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-17322

That the Parliament commends Leuchie House, Scotland’s only national respite charity for people with neurological conditions, on the publication of its 2024 Impact Report; acknowledges the charity’s significant growth, doubling the number of people it supports in the past two years and delivering over 1,100 therapies to more than 780 individuals in the past year alone; recognises what it sees as Leuchie House’s innovative approach to combining health, care, and technology, which, it understands, was recently praised by the Care Inspectorate, and the estimated £500,000 that it believes the charity has saved the NHS through early interventions; understands that over 100,000 people in Scotland live with neurological conditions and considers that demand for specialist respite care continues to far outstrip capacity in the NHS and social care; welcomes the appointment of Graeme Hartop as the charity’s new chair, and calls on the Scottish Government to better support organisations like Leuchie House.
