Celebrating the 85th Anniversary of Glasgow’s Central Citizens Advice Bureau

  • Submitted by: Pam Duncan-Glancy, Glasgow, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 16 September 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-14515

That the Parliament celebrates the 85th year of outstanding public volunteering service to people in Glasgow of the city's Central Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB); recognises that, when it was formed on 15 January 1939, it did so in anticipation of the outbreak of the Second World War; believes that this highlights the forward thinking of its founding members, who realised that people in Glasgow would have greater need; notes that Central CAB was the first of its kind, with other CABs in the city not forming until at least September 1939; pays credit to its achievement of assisting with 73,000 enquiries by the end of the war, and welcomes what it sees as the vital role that CAB members and volunteers played in the social housing sector rebuilding programme.
