That the Parliament congratulates Balerno on its 20th year as a Fairtrade Village; understands that Fairtrade Fortnight 2024 will take place from 9 to 22 September, and that it also marks the 30th year of the Fairtrade movement across the UK, with this year’s theme, Be the Change, encouraging everyone to buy Fairtrade and make trade fair; acknowledges what it sees as the incredible efforts of the members of Balerno Fairtrade Village, local retailers including the Mill Café, and the local schools and residents who have enthusiastically supported Fairtrade Fortnight and Fairtrade throughout the year, including raising awareness for what it sees as the need for fairer trade to support farmers in low-income countries, and thanks everyone involved in highlighting the merits of Fairtrade, stocking Fairtrade and buying Fairtrade.
