East Lothian Partnership Poverty Plan 2024-2028

  • Submitted by: Martin Whitfield, South Scotland, Scottish Labour
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 03 September 2024
  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S6M-14260

That the Parliament notes the approval of East Lothian Partnership’s 2024-2028 plan for tackling poverty across the county at a recent full meeting of East Lothian Council; understands that the Partnership includes the local authority, NHS Lothian, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, charity organisations and education providers, and that the first East Lothian Poverty Plan (2021-2023) was central to the county’s recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic; further understands that the revised second plan, which has been developed following a year of engagement and consultation with local people and groups, focuses on increasing people’s income and creating resilient communities that are ready for the future, with priority actions aiming to ensure a supply of good quality jobs that pay fairly, residents being able to get the income that they are entitled to and support with the cost of living, residents having a good life with access to the essentials such as housing, good health, quality food and a resilient community, and East Lothian being climate change ready by taking preventative action to protect and support communities from the effects of climate change; commends all of the organisations and individuals involved in the partnership for their work on the poverty plan, and urges the Scottish Government to play its part in supporting the plan’s implementation over the next four years.
