Commending the Scottish Retail Consortium for Producing a Guide for Retailers on Nature and Biodiversity

  • Submitted by: Maurice Golden, North East Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 23 April 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12945

That the Parliament commends the Scottish Retail Consortium for producing a guide for retailers on nature and biodiversity; notes that the guide and practical steps for shopkeepers have been developed in the context of emerging international and domestic reporting frameworks and disclosure requirements on nature, including the new voluntary framework from the Taskforce for Nature-related Financial Disclosures, and understands that the aim is to build on the retail industry’s existing net zero by 2040 ambition and to make retail "nature positive" by encouraging retailers to start considering how best to measure their impact on nature and minimise biodiversity loss, including understanding the risk of inaction across their direct operations and supply chain, and therefore improve the long-term resilience of retail operations.
