  • Motion reference: S6M-11472

That the Parliament offers its thanks to volunteers and staff at the Shakespeare Street Youth Club, which, for the last 100 years, has shown an outstanding commitment to provide various opportunities for young people and their families in the Maryhill and Wyndford area; congratulates Shakespeare Street Youth Club, known affectionately as "The Shakey", on reaching the milestone of 100 years young; understands that a celebration of the 100th anniversary, which was held at The Shakey in August 2023, was both fun and emotional, as former members, staff and volunteers joined in the festivities; notes that this included both current manager, Julie McMillan, and former manager, Stewart Bell; understands that The Shakey is the oldest youth club in Scotland; commends all involved with the Shakespeare Street Youth Club over those 100 years for delivering varied activities to improve the lives of children and young people, including regular cooking clubs, wellbeing sessions and play groups, and for engaging young people in sports such as football, tai chi and taekwondo; notes what it sees as their tireless work to enhance the lived experience of young people through residential stays, trips and days out; further notes what it sees as the wider social contribution that The Shakey makes to the local area through fundraising, community events and campaigns; acknowledges the hard work and dedication of all staff, organisers and volunteers who have collectively provided what it considers is vital support to the community for over a century, and extends gratitude and best wishes for a successful future to The Shakey for many years to come.
